Me and my husband went to mom’s house (my mother-in-law). When we entered the house, when the front door was still open, children who were playing outside promptly ran into the house.
They hurriedly took food that were on the table, and then ran away. The three of us watched the behavior of these children who didn’t have manners. Mom told us that nowadays there were more and more children playing on the streets. They even played in front of mom’s house while screaming a lot.
When I was cooking, I told my husband this dream. I told him that this is the first time I dreamed about mom, even though it’s very short. I was wondering too, why did I only dream about her after we had known each other for five years, and we were together quite often too.
Mom is the kind of person who loves telling stories about her past and her daily experiences. A lot of things can be her talk topics. She has a lot of exciting stories about her childhood, her youth and her old age. I love listening to her.
My husband told me that he has listened to her stories many times because mom often repeats the same stories, but my great husband is a really good son. He listens to mom’s stories which he has heard already without interrupting her, also he won’t tell her that he has heard the story many times. He listens to her stories and responds to them. What an exemplary example.
I learned a lot from my husband. In the past, when I heard mom telling a story which she had told me before, usually I would interrupt and tell her, “Yeah, I still remembered, you have told me this story before.” Now I don’t do that anymore. I will listen to her story and respond to it as if it is a story that I hear for the first time. With this new attitude, mom is happier to share her story with me, unlike in the past. I am very grateful I can learn this positive attitude.
Some old people really love repeating their old stories. As young people, we have to understand them and become good listener. This is how we show respect to them.
