It was a very hot afternoon, and it’s getting hotter because there were a lot of people. I was one of these people. Where was I? I was in the middle of a crowd in a shopping center.
Other than me, there was my mom too. The two of us walked through shopping alleys which were full of visitors. A lot of people walked on these alleys and looked at goods which were on display, both inside the shops and outside the shops. We had to be careful not to bump into other people.
We also stopped sometimes to look at goods on display. When we stopped at a clothes store, we tried to find if there’re clothes which were to our liking. The shopkeeper swiftly and kindly offered us clothes which were trending at the time. There was one clothes that I liked but there were no smaller size of it. The one which was available was too big for me. Because there was no interesting item in my eyes, we decided to leave that store.
After we left that store, mom said that she wanted to rest a bit. I took mom to a restaurant and ordered food for mom. After the food had been brought to our table, I told mom to eat while I went to visit other shops. Mom agreed so, I left her alone.
After I left that restaurant, I met my friend. She brought her mom and daughter. I called out to her and we talked a bit. My friend said that she wanted to continue her journey to Chatuchak because there were more shops there and she wanted to buy a lot. I told her she was right because I had gone there before. Then she excused herself because she wanted to shop already. As my friend left, I also left this dream.
Two years ago, July 2017, me and my husband went on vacation to Thailand. We also went to Chatuchak Weekend Market at Bangkok. Before we reached Chatuchak, we met a large number of pedestrians. We are also among them. Other than us, a lot of vehicles were also there. We crossed the street and finally entered Chatuchak market place.
Chatuchak Weekend Market is the biggest market at Bangkok and one of the biggest markets on Asia. When we were there, we saw a lot of shops selling various things. The market place was made of many alleys and each alley was named. On the street sides, there were also a lot of sellers who put their goods on display.
Other than looking at goods and people, we also stopped sometimes to eat and drink. We ate ice cream and fruits, and drank various drinks. They were freshening. Moreover, we ate and drank them while the weather was hot and we were walking. Oh yeah, there is no air conditioner on Chatuchak so we felt very hot because of the weather and the crowd. Because we were there for a long time, we also stopped at a food stall, ordered some food and ate there. Other than recharging our energy, we also rested our feet which had walked for hours.
There were an enormous number of shops at Chatuchak and they were quite similar, so we decided that if we saw something we liked and we wanted to buy, we should just buy it. Why? Because we once had difficulty finding a shop we had left behind, even though that shop had a unique item that we liked, and we couldn’t find it elsewhere. We also had experience leaving a store while noting its location in order to visit it again later, but doing this wasted a lot of our time and energy.
Did we shop a lot at Chatuchak? Of course not. We couldn’t carry too many items with our hands. Other than that, we are also an economical family, so we only bought items that we thought useful. Moreover, our purpose of vacation was to enjoy the nature and feel the culture of other country, not shopping. And the experience of shopping at Chatuchak is very memorable to us.
